Anime and beyond..

Good day everyone,

 

It's been sometime since my last entry and it's already February, time flies by real fast. A lot happened in the last couple of weeks, I had my first-term final exams at the beginning of January which were particularly difficult and my results were a bit unpleasent.  The second term started after exams immediately but the first week was light and relaxing. However, I have lots of work this term and I need to do extra good this time to fix my average. So far I am doing good and hopefully will continue at this rate.

 

Enough about my studies, I want to talk a bit about the last couple of movies that I saw (about 3 in the last two weeks) and they are:

 

No Country for Old Man:

I dont see an "A" rating in yahoo for movies very much but this movie really deserve it. Outstanding performence, outstanding story and directing, simply outstanding. I could divide the movie to a thriller for the first part and drama in the second part. Well, 8 oscar nomination isn't much for this movie.

 

Cloverfield:

The idea is brillint and they movie pack lots of breath-taking moments and so much thrillers. I should though that I got a headache in the begining of the movie because of the camera constant movements but I got used to it afterwards. With all this said, I feel there was something missing in this movie so I wasn't completely satisfied.

 

The Water Horse:

Overall, this was ok for me. I just liked where the events took place (Scotland). Ii didn't imprss me very much for some reason. Although some moments were a bit enjoyable.

 

 

The other main form of entertainment that I watch is Anime (obviously) and I finished two more animes.

 

First of was Shigurui, a historical martial art anime that goes to the exterme with its gore and nudity content. I did not like this fact but the sowrd styles shown is just to awesome to miss. The story truned to be very good and the atomsphere of the anime is intense and full of anticipation. After 4 episodes, I just liked the anime in every aspect. Great animation, great music, great fights, great characters, outstanding overall IMO. I am a bit disappointed that this anime didn't get any nomination in the ARC awards. I just saw the ineterview with original creater and I respect this anime even more. I hope they make the second season (btw the story doesnt end in this anime but the end was great).

 

Then there was Dennou Coil. I want talk about how good is this (overall it's very good, say 8 out of 10) but I'll write about how much I enjoyed this. Let me say that this is the first anime I fell in love this very much since Mushishi (that would be about one 1.5 years ago). I like this in every single way and imo the story is incredible. It does a great job in combining mystery, science fiction, drama, slice of life, thriller, and even some romance. Now I thought Shigurui was awesome but this anime was even more good imo. Just check ARC award nomination for this anime.

 

In addition, I almost done with Slam Dunk which been really great so far. Next animes that I think I will watch are Monster and TTGL, for now. Might change my mind though. I also forget to mention that I joined MAL (myanimelsit) website and here my list link:

Now concerning Go, I want stop playing this for a while so I could spend more time on my studies but I will definitely play it again later on. Although I am still playing whenever I can.

 

For my next blog, I will try to post my own best 2007 animes award and will do this as soon as I can. I will also try to some pictures which I been trying to do so since some time now.

 ENCHANTED

 

This was a great series that I enjoyed alot. And I think Satoshi Kon did a good job as usual.

 

Overall this was decent but I enjoyed it quite much. It started very good and the skull man charactor was so.. interesting.

 

 

 

 Hi

Well, last week wasn't very busy but I only watched one movie. On its premiere date here in the UK, I saw The Golden Compass. The movie was good and actually had some breath-taking scenes. The ending was surprising and unsatisfying.

This week is actually the last week of the first term and I'll be having three weeks of vacation that will be full of fun... no, wait, it will be full of studying since the exams comes after the vacation immediately. arrg!!

Anyway, I will try to do enough of both (studying and having fun) and I hope I'll have the chance to travel somewhere. There are already a planned trip to Manchester. And another trip to London to attend the London Open Go Tournement. And it seems that I will spend new year eve in London. I was hoping to go north at new year's but things dont go as you like all the time.

 

Animes are still here in my life :P. I just started two new series (as if the series I am currently watching isn't enough). They are Paranoia Agent and Code Geass. I like the former more so far but I have high hopes for Geass. I am also watching Slam Dunk and a bunch of ongoing animes.

So it is the beginning of December, it seems it will be a busy month since I hav my exams starting Jan 7th. It's time to prepare. Putting that aside, I have seen a lot of movies in the past two weeks. And since the "list" here in my space can handle up to 10 items, I will talk about the movies I saw here.

 

Here's what I saw so far:

 

Beowulf: in 3D (twice)

It was really enjoyable. A great fantasy movie. I am happy that our cinema finally got 3D. I hope I get to see more 3D movies.

 

This was a good movie but I am a bit disappointed with the production quality. A bit long.

 

Into the Wild (2nd watch)

Amazing. I am really glad that I decieded to "live" this adventure again.

 

Impressive viuals and music. good action. OK story. I bit diappointed with 47.

 

At first, the movie was slow, different and did not have much to present. I thought it was a mistake to see this movie. but the second half was pure greatness. The movie gets better and better and by the end, the movie is so amazing over all. A little long but I wont mind seeing this again.

 

Anime-wise, I was able to finish a couple series in the last few weeks, here is some of them:

 

Mononoke:

Brillint Series, it's a must see imo. If you dont mind the art and strange animation, and if you like these kind of mystery-fantasy stories, you dont want to miss this.

I just love it.

 

 This turned out to be a sequal and I did not see this fist part. But it seems that you dont really need to see the first part. Anyway, it was a very good anime. It has a bit old-style story but that's why I liked it. The story was interesting and strightforward. I liked black jack and so ended up enjoying this anime.

 

Seirei no Moribito (or Guardian of the Sacred Spirit):

I just finished this....

 

 

So, basiclly these were the last three animes I finished. Three more to add to my list which reached 111 animes ^_^.

 

Elsewhere (did I use this correctly?), I went last week to Leicester to attend the East Midlands GO Tournament. It was fun and my games were exciting. I won 1 out of 3 matches which is not bad. I am planning to attend the London Open at the end of this month.
